Short answer: two dry windows
The most popular months to climb Kilimanjaro are January–early March and June–October. These windows generally mean clearer trails, more stable weather, and better summit views. Shoulder months can still work with the right route choice.
January to early March
Warm days, cold nights, and a chance of short rains. Excellent visibility after December showers. Popular with climbers avoiding European summer crowds in July–August.
June to October
Long dry season peak. Cold summit nights, especially August–September. Book early—this is high season for both climbs and safaris.
Rainy months: April, May, November
Trails are quieter and prices softer. Rongai's drier northern approach is often preferred. Expect mud in the rainforest zone and more cloud on summit night.
Full moon climbs
Summiting under a full moon is magical and reduces headlamp reliance. We schedule Machame and Lemosho departures around lunar peaks when demand is high.
How to decide
Match your fitness leave dates first, then pick a longer route (7–9 days) if you are climbing in a shoulder or wetter month.
Pairing a climb with safari? Dry season helps both. Beach after the mountain? Zanzibar works year-round with different wind and seaweed patterns by coast.
